Who's Complaining?
A Ballad Without Apologies

Some do it with daggers and some
     with bludgeons,
But there's nothing zestier than
     an old curmudgeon's
Slash and reposte
Which get one the most
Of a well-meant attack
On some garrulous hack.

Refrain:
O Mary B, O Mary B,
I do not reject civility!
But when egos roar
And truth is weeping
That's no time to go bo-peeping!

Some show it with venom and some
     with hypers,
But none can compete with the
     sincerest of capers--
Direct and contentious
And mildly licentious
Of an educated palate
And well-aimed mallet.

Refrain:
O Mary B, O Mary B,
I do not reject civility!
But when egos roar
And truth is weeping
That's no time to go bo-peeping!

So smile and laugh at the
     curmudgeon's refusal
To bow or bend before the
     threat of bamboozle!
O Tempora, O Mores! Enjoy the forays!
Critiques are healthy and don't exclude praise.

Refrain:
O Mary B, O Mary B,
I do not reject civility!
But when egos roar
And truth is weeping
That's no time to go bo-peeping!
